How to Build a Profitable Speaking Business with Bret Ridgway
Bret Ridgway is a 25 year veteran of the speaking industry and brings a unique perspective handling the back of the room sales table at 150+ conferences, providing fulfillment services for some of the biggest names in the industry and speaking on many stages himself. He's the author of 7 books focused on speakers, authors, information marketers and event promoters and is a frequent guest on virtual summits, podcasts and at in person events.
Bret and Audrey discussed how Bret got into the speaking and book publishing world, and how he started his own company, Speaker Fulfillment Services. Bret also shared how he eventually overcame his introvertedness and started delivering content at conferences.
Bret discussed the three types of speakers: keynote, platform seller, and business builder. He discussed the importance of researching the audience before speaking and the potential to make more money as a platform seller than a keynote speaker. He also mentioned the importance of speaking multiple times to become proficient.
He emphasizes the importance of relationships and having a book to build credibility as a speaker. He also advises to make sure the book is consumable and to include bounce backs to draw readers to the speaker's website.
Bret discussed the importance of relationships, overcoming imposter syndrome, and having the courage to share something with the world. Finally Bret shared the importance of finding a mentor to help guide you down the path you want to go.
